On the evening of May 24th, after learning about the massacre that took place earlier that day at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, I sat down and wrote this song, "Watershed."
Watershed
How many kids must die
under a blaze of fire
before we change our mind
about our sacred rights?
Another 3 or 4?
Maybe a dozen more?
Is someone keeping score?
I can’t tell anymore.
How many thoughts and prayers
will we pretend to share?
Is it enough, enough, enough, enough
for a watershed?
Is it enough, enough, enough, enough
for a watershed?
How many teenage sons
will steal their daddy’s guns
and make a grocery run
all in the name of fun?
How many talking heads
will disregard the dead
and sell their souls instead
to make a little bread?
Who will be sacrificed
to keep them satisfied?
Is it enough, enough, enough, enough
for a watershed?
Is it enough, enough, enough, enough
for a watershed?
People on both sides
create the perfect lines
to shoot the other down.
But in the meantime
someone’s standing in line
to buy us all the next round.
When is it enough, enough, enough, enough
for a watershed?
Is it enough, enough, enough, enough
for a watershed?
Is it enough, enough
for a watershed?
Watershed
Oh, ma... this is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. The melody, the lyrics, your voice... they all went straight to my heart.
I've sent the link to Heartsong to a few of my friends, hoping that they feel inspired to subscribe so that they too can receive these gifts. You are a blessing.
MDM - woof.
some seem to use thoughts and prayers to just close the book, some seem to use thoughts and prayers to just be the book but thoughts and prayers need to be the overture to a powerful symphony that fixes this bullshit stalemate. This time.
MDM - woof.
Thank you.
